hello guys there is strange noise in the engine as you can see in the attached video. it is generally appear after I drive for about 15 min. it is not always appearing but usually when I lift the hood I can hear it. it is similar to air sound or something like that. the engine used to be very smooth running but actually I think there is some pressurized air or something related to that.

if someone know what is the case of such problem, I would appreciate that.

That to me sounds like a belt/pulley noise (perhaps the serpentine belt). Also may want to look at a vacuum leak possibility although the engine idle seems pretty consistent. This is my two cents.

Well just to state the obvious, could be knocking or piston slap... that must be the 1.8 motor? It does not look like my 1.6

Just to throw it out there, tho, I once towed in a car that was making a sound like that and I thought for sure it was a rod knocking but upon closer inspection we discovered that someone had used some [email protected]$s champion brand spark plugs and a portion of the porcelain had blown out. It was the damndest thing, because the porcelain could not quite separate fully from the metal threaded body in the head so it just sat there slamming the core of the plug up and down with each stroke, made a heck of a racket but similar to that and so a new set of NGK plugs and she was back on the road.

Its not real easy to check the plugs on these motors but if there is any way to wiggle a hand or an inspection camera in there...

By the way do you have a check engine light with this noise or no?

thanks guys for your comments and your views. just to mention that if it were Piston slap so it is clear that if the engine get warm then the slap should decrease as the metal expand in addition, engine smoke should be simultaneous with slapping since there is gap between Piston and cylinder so this is not my case because the engine have no smoke.

belt/pulley noise is really different and it is far different as you can check in youtube for cases with belt/ pulley problems.

any further suggestions?

Possibility of a valve tappet making the noise? You might want to try adding one of those oil additives made to reduce engine noise and see if there is any difference. Good luck

You can piston slap all day long with zero smoke. Don't kid yourself. You show '08 model and PLENTY of them had that issue.

Depending on the oil used it gets louder when the oil thins out from heat. Slapping noises are much more common now due to the extreme thin oil weights the OEMs use now. The oil additive may quieten it some but that's not going away.

Commonly worse colder but it does not have to be. Piston skirt can flex just right with certain cracking to make noise all over the map and at weird times.

Also can be a spun bearing to let the piston hit the head to make noise, so more to think about there.

If it was a tappet issue it should have taken a good while to get that bad. Meaning the wear noise is likely not going to be adjusted back out any longer, it has to be responded to faster than that, the cam lobe will likely now be dead from inattention to the issue.

If belt you check by yanking belt and running for a few moments after heating engine up to make the noise present, but I'd bet no. One never knows though.

If it is piston slap then logically it should show all times. Yesterday I drove about one hour and noticed there is no noise. As I said it comes sometimes not always. Second the engine is 60 thousand miles so it is not that big number compared to 2008 model.

Absolutely NOT. And LOTS of the engines had the issue way before 60K miles. 30K a lot. Some at 15K.

A spun bearing wallows out and then the noise when it gets thin to hit head then bearing CAN spin more again to a thicker spot and then no noise until it wears to show again. Drain oil and look for metal in it.

NOT saying it HAS to be bad engine but if you are not going to weed out like serp belt issues then all you got left. Could simply be a dead tensioner striking end limits. Or some idiot putting on the wrong length belt. Might even be something silly like engine mounts, but just complaining about the noise and then insisting on what it is not does little to find it.

Problem solved no Piston slap as I thought. It was the Evap purge solenoid broken and all this noise came from it.

.............................nope, I'm leaving this one alone other than the vid was aimed wrong and apparently so was the OP. If that noise was that part OP should have found it in a minute.

Thus proving for the millionth time that if information is tilted incorrectly enough NOTHING is solvable over the web.

After hearing that engine I forgot what we were looking for in the first place. :surprise I hope its an automatic as thats not a car I would practice no lift shifting between gears. Now my honda had a ticking noise like a singer sewing machine. That was the noise between the vtec solenoids and injectors.
