It is, in order of likelihood:

The fuel pump
The fuel filter
The fuel pressure regulator

I'd bet $1,000 on it. But try actually diagnosing it instead of throwing parts around? Might as well just go to a mechanic if that's what you're going to do.

I have no idea why you'd suspect an alternator or spark plugs. Or why someone would think vacuum….lol.

Hi I am new to the Forum, but we have had a 2014 Nissan Versa Note for about 2 years. We already had the CVT transmission replaced at about 74k miles. Now at about 87,000 miles the transmission seems to work fine except when I am going up a slight incline at highway speeds. What happens is we are travelling about about 75 to 80 MPH as most of the traffic on this stretch of highway does. The RPM's will suddenly drop about 500-1000 RPM's then come back up to the original reading. There is a slight surge when it happens too. Then it feels like the vehicle wants to start pulling like it is supposed to. I am not sure if it is the transmission or if I should be looking into something else. I have the problem if the A/C is on or off. So I know it's not the A/C causing the issue. If anyone can help me out or has experienced this issue with the CVT please feel free to let me know. I am perplexed and don't want to have to replace the transmission again if that is what it is. Thanks!
I took a video of my gauges as I drove the vehicle this afternoon. I figured it would at least show a little bit about what was going on with the engine while driving it on a slight and I mean slight incline. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Nothing to add other than it's a tough diag. Maybe some data can be retrieved from diagnostic port for the transmission.

So quick update

I recently had the oil change done on my vehicle as I do every 5k miles. I am not sure what changed, but the vehicle is working as it should be. I discovered that the issue that I was experiencing felt like the vehicle going in and out of limp mode.

I have a feeling the last time we had the oil change done the shop put the incorrect oil (heavier weight) and that was causing the issue. This started shortly after the last oil change. I never put two and two together. I am now getting better gas mileage and when going up hills the car holds the higher RPM's and does not falter at all. This has left me scratching my head. I had the transmission computer checked and there were no codes and was within normal operating parameters. Also there was no check engine light either. So like I said all is well now. I will let you know if the issue comes back. Thanks!

Heavier oil absolutely will NOT make an engine miss, I run it in every single car I have including my '11 Versa. Using 15W-40 right now. As I said, likely not an engine issue anyway.

Cars do not go in and out of limp mode as well, when they go in it they stay there until the problem is fixed. The recording there shows nothing that could be construed as limp mode.

Thank you for your reply. I will tell you that the computer did show that the vehicle had gone into limp mode. However the dealer could not find any issues. All I’m saying is since I had the oil change done the car has been absolutely fine.

Running a heavier oil in these engines (or any newer engines) is not a good idea either. I always make sure I use the required fluids. The previous time I had the oil done I was not close to home and so I couldn’t get it into the dealer. So I took it to another shop which I will not be going back to again.

As for the misfire I don’t believe I said the vehicle was misfiring. I simply said it was bogging down and losing power when going up hills. I drive this vehicle 110 miles a day round trip and I go up quite a few hills both ways. The vehicle at this very moment has no check engine light or malfunction codes. It’s running smoother than it has since the issue first showed up. I will keep an eye on it and see if it comes back. But for the moment I’m kind of curious as to why we had an issue to begin with.

Did you find out what It was?? Just fixed mine, sounds along the same lines/Issues. I’d say it’s a bad FpR/Pump. GoodLuck Brother!

I have not. The car was running excellent until this afternoon. I was on the highway and started coming up a hill and the vehicle started doing it again. I’m going to make an appointment again to get it into the dealer. It’s perfect until we start going up any kind of incline. It is starting to feel sluggish again too. The transmission is not slipping. As the RPM’s never feel like they’re just revving and the vehicle is not going anywhere. Is that what you were experiencing? Is the fuel pump easy to get to?
