So i got a new 2017 Versa sedan S-Plus, which is virtually identical to the older 2015-2016 models.

I love the Versa Sedan but, one thing that always bothered me was no armrest. So after getting my new one the first thing i looked into was aftermarket solutions. The first one i tried was this "universal" armrest:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PLDQ2BW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

^^ Do NOT buy this one. This is actually an extremely common model going around that claims to work for MANY other vehicles. The plastic quality is cheap yet very sturdy, and it looks decent in the car. It would certainly do it's job if it could be installed right.

However, it does not properly "seat" in either of the rear cupholders because it's way too short, with a good 1.5" clearance of empty space. The included screws were way too short. So i got the idea to use longer screws, and drilled them securely into the cupholder. This seem to work great but, after a day or two it started to wobble and move around. Even though the screws were firmly secured, that empty dead-space at the bottom was keeping it from being fully snug, and i drilled the holes for nothing (noooo!!).

This is my 2nd option. I actually saw this one earlier but the hefty $70 price put me off it. However, after the failure of the first one and the good reviews i gave it a shot:

^^ Awesome!!! I WISH i had tried this one originally. First off, it feels of MUCH higher quality than the other one. Secondly, it doesn't even need anything to secure it. It fits almost perfectly in the frontmost, side-cupholder near the emergency brake. It wobbles a bit but, you can still use it for it's intended purpose as an armrest just fine.

However, i did want to secure it but was not willing to put anymore dill holes into my cupholder. So i went to lowes and bought this:

Scotch extreme mounting tape.
https://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Extreme-Mounting-400-inches-414-LONGDC/dp/B00FUEN2GK/ref=pd_sim_60_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00FUEN2GK&pd_rd_r=0C1T7ZMRYQPHCTQBVX0N&pd_rd_w=FRHQw&pd_rd_wg=jGYtQ&psc=1&refRID=0C1T7ZMRYQPHCTQBVX0N

^^ It's basically heavy-duty, double sided mounting tape that you can use in places of drilling, to secure heavy things like trophy plaques to your wall. Has a 30lb weight capacity.

So i wrapped two strips around the bottom/base that inserts into the cupholder. This not only gave it the extra snugness it needed to seat firmly without any wobbling but, the double-sided adhesive tape also adds to securing it in place.

Perfect. Now i have a nice looking armrest that works great and looks like it came with the car! :grin

My only regret is i didn't buy this one first and instead went with the cheap option, and drilled holes into my cupholder for nothing. D'oh! Learn from my mistake.

Arm Rest

Glad to here your report. I also bought the cheap one. Mine actually fits pretty well. I have had it in the car for several months and it works fine. I bet there is a quality control issue on the size of the base on this unit.

Yours has the swing up function which would really be nice.

Did your car come with an arm rest? Mine did and I had to remove it to put the console in. The console works much better than the arm rest did.

Any chance of a picture of the console installed?

The Base S and S-Plus Versa's have no armrest of any kind. Your arm is just hanging. I always just hung my right arm behind the passenger seat.

It's nighttime right now. I'll take a picture later.

Here are the images. So far it's been great and i recommend it highly. Price is hefty but worth it. Build quality is very nice, it looks like it came with the car, and fits the Versa cupholder almost perfect.

And again, don't EVER drill holes into your center console! There are better, less destructive ways to secure an armrest. My double-sided mounting tape idea has it anchored down solid, with zero movement.

So if anyone is looking to upgrade their 2015-2017 Versa Sedan with a nice armrest, THIS is it.

Nice! But do you think it would get in the way of shifting a manual 5 speed? I have a 2016 Versa sedan S with the 5 speed manual. Would this arm rest make it awkward to shift?

Don't think any of the consoles would get in the way of the shift lever but I'm not sure about your arm movement to shift.

I got the first model referenced and need to go to homedepot and get longer screws. Its been a few weeks and I no longer have the box to return it.

Im mounting mines in the rear most cup holder as it has a built in folding one you can pull out from the rear.

Inside is also a coin holder and room for more crap.

A nissan dealer sells one online for 100 bucks too if you continue shopping online for an arm rest.

Don't do that!!

If you read my post above, that's exactly what i tried to do, and ended up drilling holes in my cupholder for nothing. It's lose-lose. Even if the long screws are firmly secured, it'll still flop around because it's not snug/firm inside. And as it's flopping around, it'll be scratching the sides up badly.

If you're determined to make it work? I suggest using my double-sided tape method instead. That would actually hold it in place better, and you wouldn't have to drill holes.

Edit: Or, you can just cut your losses, chuck it and buy the GOOD one. Where you won't need to drill holes at all.

I live in a very humid area. I like a hole in the cup holder to let the sweat out from the can. I usually also drill a hole in the trunk so if the ice chest/cooler flips over I wont have a trunk or spare tire well full of icy water. :D

So far so good. I had a similar arm rest in my scion xa 5 speed. It does not block shifting, then again I shift infrequently and when I do I do it with my finger tips and wrist bent downwards like in this photo.

My sidekick on the other hand I grip it like a pistol grip and put my weight into shifting it. >:D

Anyone interested in the console? I purchased the same on mentioned above and tried an install in a 2017 Versa Note SV. Unfortunately, the driver side arm rest gets in the way.

What's it in the way of? I am considering this possibility as I have a '17 Versa S. The lack of the arm rest doesn't seem to bother me much yet but it's only been 3 days.

On the SV there is a swivelling drivers armrest attached to the seat; this blocks the console from being installed.

Finally got mines installed. You know, the cheaper one from Amazon that needs longer screws if you use the rear most cup holder to mount it in. It may work in the front most cup holder as that one is shallower, but since its a 5 speed I wanted to allow more room for shifting and since Im a big guy allow for more room. I got 4 longer screws, but they are sold in packages of 2 and I got some skinny washers so they wouldnt pull out the bottom of the arm rest that easy.

In the end its a sturdy install, but the rear cup holder is wonky. Maybe Ill buy one from the auto section at a store and either install it to the arm rest, center storage device or get one to just sit on the floor behind it?

Unfortunately, Amazon no longer carries this. Anyone know where else to buy this or a similar type that will work in a 2019 Versa S?

I saw that one. But if you read the Q&A on that listing, the manufacturer states it won’t work on the Versa with two cup holders.
