Is there any recommendation for completely assembled strut for Versa front wheels?

Dealer diagnosed all kind of suspension issues (spring on one side, bushings on other, clamp, etc.) so instead of trying to buy missing parts, I would prefer to buy 2 new fully built struts, get two new stabilizer links, they already replaced control arms (for freaking 1200$)...

So, I want to buy all the parts and go to mechanic and ask him to install it...

We are looking for new car, but I want something with manual transmission and leave this one to my wife (so I do want to fix it, we have new tires, new brakes, got only 50K on it, it should be good for next couple of years...)

Welcome aboard.

I just google "2012 nissan versa strut assembly" and saw many listings for 130 bucks each. Its a new thing now for many parts stores to sell the whole strut assembly vs in pieces and requiring you to use a spring compressor to dis and reassemble.

The problem is for 2012, there were Versa Sedan and Hatchback (later renamed as Note)...

Besides name, they do not share much (different breaking rotors, different engines, different suspension....)

So, all the things I found was for either Sedan 2011 or earlier, or 2012 hatchback...

Thanks for the reply though.

I think I'll just go to Pep-Boys or someone and have them pick up from the stock whatever is broken...

Sometimes the best way is to do that. I spent more for tires for my van going to a merchants, but they were willing to put the largest that will fit for me. They did, we had an issue and they fixed it in a few hours of testing by removing a baffle in a fender well. I think it was well worth it.

My biggest source for parts is rockauto. I still got a wrong for a car and they paid for shipping. I got the wrong part for a car, a big heavy shock. They deducted 7 bucks from my refund to send it back. All I had to do was take it in the box and label to a office max to send it back. Well worth the trouble.

Have you looked at the struts yourself? If not, have you at least taken it to another shop for a 2nd opinion? Just because the dealer says you need new struts doesn't mean the struts are actually bad. They are hoping you are ignorant and don't know anything about cars. They hope that you will take their word for it and have them do the repairs.

I went to a dealer last August for an oil change. They said I need new CV joints or tie rods in the front (I don't remember since I knew their claim was likely bogus). Six months later (earlier this month), I took the car to a different dealer. They didn't mention anything about the front of the car so I have a feeling the 1st dealer was lying about the CV joints/tie rods. The 2nd dealer did mention that I need new rear shocks, which is also suspicious since I just replaced them less than 2 years ago with Monroe shocks, not the cheap OEM/stock Chinese-made rear shocks. I replaced the rear shocks myself; not a difficult job.

I assumed the op cant do it himself or is afraid of a spring compressor. Typically you disassemble the "strut" and replace the shock then put it back together. Sometimes you also replace the top bearing plate, etc as other parts wear out.

Also I think the older versa had a complete suspension recall, so again figured op wanted to replace and start new.

For an ease of mind, I would just search for a 2013 versa sedan strut. This way you'll be guaranteed the right part when shopping around.

I live in the building, so, tough to get enough working space when you park on the street :(

Also, I am not great with tools as well (big clumsy guy), i replaced spark plugs on my own, braking pads (on company parking lot, it the middle of nowhere), so getting a place to actually remove and re-pack shocks, plus leave the car like that to get anything I might be missing or should be replaced (bolt, plate, etc.)

I didn't ask for second opinion, it's 6 years old car with 50K miles on it, 80% of the time my baby is in car with me, so I don't mind replacing it if it's needed or recommended (even if it's not needed), just it's abysmal to pay 1100$ at the dealer, especially since on the price breakdown, they are claiming new ones are 600$... you can get performance one for that money...

Understood. When I said it's not a difficult job, I was referring to the rear shocks since those are separate from the springs. You can remove the rear shocks without needing to touch the rear springs. You are correct, the front struts are more difficult since the strut consists of the shock and spring in one assembly. Yes, you would need a spring compressor to disassemble the spring from the bad front strut and then to put the spring into the new front strut.

I have a baby boy as well. The baby, of course, comes before the car. Unfortunately, that means our available time for our cars is limited. However, if you can make time, I still suggest getting a 2nd opinion, like at an independent mechanic (i.e. not a Nissan dealer).

FYI. If you did not fail a safety inspection I would say you are 90% ok in the strut department. That would rule out the bearing, bushing as it would allow excess play in your wheels and steering.

Now if you press down on the corner of each side of your car and release it with your body weight and it bounces once or 1.5 times your shocks are ok. The shock is inside the strut. If it bounces multiple times you need a new shock and to replace those up front you need a spring compressor or to compressor the spring. Many times I jack the corner of a car, then put it on a stand. I then reuse the jack on the lower control arm to compress the spring, undo the center nut then release the jack and have the strut assembly self disassemble in a somewhat controlled manner inside the wheel well. >:D

Those arms that connect the sway bar to the strut makes a rattle at low speeds. You maybe able to pay on the ground with your wheels cranked all the way to one side and reach under and give em a shake to see if they are loose.
