Swapped cars with my son

My son's '04 Mustang was in the process of being reposessed, so I took out a loan for the remaining loan balance and traded my Versa for it.

My Versa was paid off, so we went to the DMV and signed it over.

The title for the Mustang is in collections, so It'll be a couple of weeks (hopefully) before it's registered in my name.

The Mustang needs some help and I was pretty much finished with the Versa, so my wife suggested the swap.

My son gets out of the loan and a new(ish) low mileage car with a back seat that'll work for my grandson.

I get a tripple black convertable another project.

Right away, I replaced the battery cables as the negative had corroded beyond service. I'm ordering parts for engine work since I have a coolant leak at the intake manifold.

Also, my son had clipped a pole while reversing smashing the left-front of the car. A new bumper cover (Cobra style) and fender are on order.

I've also been working with a local tire shop and will be fitting the car with a staggered wheel set, 9" wide in front, 10.5" out back.(!)

Beyond all of that, lots of small dents and scratches throughout most likely will require a total re-spray, but that'll come later.

So I'll remain an active member, but am joining mustangforms.com (user name, slipperman).

There's SO MUCH aftermarket support for this car! This will be my third Mustang, the first a 1967 I bought in '78, and a '80 Turbo I bought new (turd motor!).

I've also had a couple of Torino's, a Maverick, and a ZX2 Escort, so I'm not new to the ford oval.

So thanks to all for the great support I've had tweaking my Versa! It now lives on as a family car for my son and his growing clan.

Sounds interesting, I like Mustangs. Auto or manual?

Auto.

I know, not my choice, but it's not a bad auto since it's a 4 speed w/overdrive.

Swaps to manual have been done with about 2K in parts. I could do all the labor myself, so I haven't scratched that off the list yet.

However, there are more pressing needs for this car right now. For one, I converted my Versa into a sound/nav system wrapped in sheet metal. I really miss the XM and built in navigation and the Mustang has a double-din, so that will likely come sooner.
True, I'd love a double din. Any pics?
That sucks that you had to trade the Versa, but it was for a grater cause. Nice plans for the Stallion by the way.
Congrats on new Mustang! When they changed for '94, I just about lost faith in them. Then the 5.0 disappeared...but i looove the new ones...V6 manual of course:)Enjoy! Can't wait for respray...

I've been taking pics all along. When I get some results, I'll post up.

Yeah, when it comes to your kids, you seem to find a way to sacrifice. But he loves that car and I was feeling bad about taking it from him. After I started adding up the $$ outlay, I started feeling better.

I don't have kids, but I see where you are coming from with finding a way to sacrifice. I've put my parents threw the ringer and back. (lessons learned and paying them back, money, and maturity.)

I love mustangs! Congrats. Sounds like a lot of great plans for it.
Fords are nice until they breakdown repeatedly. I'd never buy another ford again.
Gorp.... I've done the car swap with family members many times since my 1987 Camry days. Last one was with my 2005 roll up window Corolla. Your a good man.....Gorp
you're a good dad! :thumb2:

Yup, hope your son appreciates it.
So, any updates with the pony? Went to the mustang site but only saw a pic of the engine bay, which looks horrific by the way, but that's what projects are right :smilejap: How's that coolant leak fix going by the way. Let us see, versa or not you still part of the family here :thumb2:
