2010 Nissan Versa 1.8S (6 Speed)

I'm gonna log every tank of gas in this thread for as long as I own my Versa. This way, we can all observe the fuel economy over the life of ownership. I'll just edit and add to the initial post every time I fill the tank!

Red: Less Than 25 mpg
Orange: 25 mpg to 29 mpg
Green: More than 30 mpg

Gallons to Fill:
Average: 27.1 mpg

Comments: This was the first week of ownership. I would say that it was about 80% Town and 20% Highway.

Comments: Drove home for Spring Break and got to do a lot of highway driving. About 40% City and 60% Highway.

Comments: Lots of highway driving. I'd say 30% Town and 70% Highway. Needless to say, I am quite thrilled with my fuel economy. I can only see it getting better as the weather warms up and my engine continues to break in.

Im excitied too, because I filled up today, it was 11 something gallons, 275.4 miles. 90%city and 10% hwy!! I got 25mpg, im so happy. Ive been getting 20-21mpg.

How does a throttle controller work? You plug it in, put it on ECO5, and it does the rest? How does this affect acceleration?

We are drive by wire. So basically it's computer control throttle. Now when you press down on the gas pedal slightly the stock setting will open the throttle plate say 20%. Even though you may only be pressing the gas pedal down 5% of the way. Car manufacturers do this to give the driver the impression that the car is faster then it is. Now on an older car with drive by cable system. When you press down the gas pedal 10% a cable opens the throttle plate 10%. They are exactly the same.

The throttle controller affects the pedal position / throttle plate %. On ECO mode you may press the gas pedal down 50% but it will only open the throttle plate 5%. It's adjustable so a racing setting you can set it that you press the gas pedal down 5% and it opens the throttle plate 50%. It will make the car feel much faster.

This is a generic way of looking at it that hopefully lets you understand what it does. My numbers are just made up and do not actually refer to the throttle controller function.

Thanks for that awesome explanation. If I am still confused (and I am somewhat), it's only because technical stuff like this confuses the heck outta me. It makes me feel like not a car guy sometimes.

Does this mean that on ECO setting, the car will be a lot slower in terms of acceleration?

No you can still achieve the same speeds it will just require you to press the pedal down further.
