Hi Versaforum,

I just thought it would be informative to those who want to get in on the ground floor on working on their cars, what are the recommended tools of the trade. If people could list the tools, brands, and basic essentials they have in their garage to work on their cars and pass that knowledge along to the rest of the community that would be awesome.

If you could name your favorite tool too that would be cool.

****Constantly editing and adding****** Floor jack, jack stands, 4-way lug wrench, oil filter wrench, oil drain pan, floor creeper, pair of ramps, can of WD-40 (& / or) PB Blaster, metric socket set, metric wrench set, metric allen wrench set, torque wrench, C-clamps, assorted sizes of philip screw drivers, assorted sizes of flat head screw drivers, assorted sizes of needle nose pliers, flash light, drop light, electrical extension cord, telescopic magnetic pick up tool, crescent wrench, channel locks, vise grips, hammer, small sledge hammer Tin snips, Small electrical repair kit (Harbor Freight). Roll of electrical tape, heat gun, soldering gun / iron with solder and flux. Oxygen / Acetylene torch (1st choice) or map gas torch (2nd choice) if not then a propane torch. Set of easy outs, Rivet gun with assorted rivets. Nice pry bar for leverage. Air compressor for inflating tires, tire plug kit. If you want quality tools at a reasonable price you can't go wrong with Craftsman. Life time warranty with a free replacement.

Netbook with WiFi access, floor jack, jack stands, 3 oil drain pans, set of ramps, 250 piece socket set(metric and standard sizes), Philips, torx and flat head screw drivers, Allen wrenches, vise grips, 3lb sledge, brake line wrenches, bench vise, welder, 33 gallon air compressor, 1/2" impact, die grinder, metric impact sockets and extensions, soldering iron, soldering gun, heat gun, propane torch, wire brushes, Makita cordless set(drill, 1/4" impact, 4 1/2" angle grinder, sawzall) Dewalt corded 4 1/2" angle grinder, damaged bolt removers, 2 sets of drill bits, step drill bits, hog ring pliers, pry bars, 1/4" inch pound bar type torque wrench, 3/8" foot pound torque wrench, 1/2" foot pound torque wrench.

Truck:
Socket set (metric 1/4" and 3/8" drive from 250 piece set), pliers, Philips, and flat head screw drivers, 2 jaw puller, pitman arm puller, axle socket, 10lb CO2 tank, air hose, regulator, hi-lift jack, 2 tow straps, 3 shackles, flex combination ratcheting wrenches, combination wrenches, jumper cables.

Versa:
1/4" and 3/8" basic socket set, Philips and flat head screw drivers and a multi tool.

I probably have more that is not listed. Most of the socket set is craftsman, some Kobalt.

I started out with my dad's basic socket set, floor jack and jack stands.

If you plan on changing your spark plugs on the Versa it needs to be a deep, thin walled, 14mm socket for a 3/8" socket. Standard spark plug socket won't work.

I took some pictures of the socket and dimensions, see if I can remember to post when I get home.

Great info, 2 things that seem to be missing, a rubber hammer/mallet for hub caps, trim rings,etc. A voltage meter/multi-meter. From the 3-4$ ones at Harbor Freight to $$$ Fluke and others. Best thing about the cheap ones, you can keep 1 in each vehicle. Also a test light, ice pick point, alligator clip, light bulb in between, shows voltage present or not.

Three important things are, IMHO: jack stands, (good) metric socket set, and tape (I prefer gaffer tape personally.)
