I have had a hitch on my V for a year. You have to have the 4at tranny no cvt , manual ok but manual trannies don't like towing. The ruling is still out there if towing damages the vehicle. I have no problems towing light boats and trailers. Mine is a Rigid Hitch, installed by a service center.:thumb2:

^^ He means if you get hit in the rear with the trailer hitch (no trailer attached). Unless your going to go through the work of removing the hitch after every tow and reattaching it before the next, when your driving without the trailer the hitch will still be on your car, which will lower the rating.

Towing on a Versa, or other small cars like it isn't advised.

If you do do it, you should also look into putting a transmission cooler (the smallest one Autozone has would work) on it as well, it will help your transmission while in tow.
Also when towing, I advise that you turn off o/d. I stay at 50 mph when towing. About 3000 rpm. Had the 14' boat out yesterday. saw the beautiful properties on the lake, reminding me again that I am paid help.:smilielol5:

The problem with having a trailer hitch assembly installed is that in a rear end impact, the bumper is designed to absorb the impact. If you have the hitch assembly, regardless of whether or not you have the ball on or if its just the receiver, the impact is going through the hitch into the structure of the vehicle where it is not designed to take impact.

Also, as was mentioned by the nissan tech that is on this board, the brakes on the versa can barely stop the car itself. Now you are loading down the back, which will make it considerably worse for braking as well, and adding that extra weight.

For a car as light as a versa, 1000lbs is alot to tow. If you get a gust of cross wind you are toast. If the trailer starts to wobble, you won't have the power to pull out of it.
....wow dude, you sound like my father. Don't do this don't do that. All I know iis someday I am gonna be 6 ft in the hole and in the meantime I will take risks like this to haul my light loads. No one said they were gonna haul a camper or car, although someone already mentioned he hauls cars with his versa. You can play the safety card, I will haul light loads with my hitch tyvm.:woot:

My 09 had ABS brakes and the car stopped just fine in any condition. Plus having ABS brakes, when in need the rear brakes can be activated to help the stopping of the car. There are sensors that also monitor the weight of the car to help judge how much pressure of the brakes are needed. But none of this will help you if you dont have ABS, lol!
Actually, the plus side to conventional brakes is they require just the normal bleeding job when replacing brakes. Also, the drums on my S never get used unless I brake hard. Really, the trick is to make sure the weight of your haul is evenly displaced. I dunno bout you all but when I am towing, I am way back of the pack, never really in a hurry. Just buy the hitch and drive smart, that's all.:45:

I apologize for the disturbance and for reviving this thread up just happened that I had a hitch put on my versa and the dealer told me to just go to the local trailer shop and it would be no problem. The big thing is that nothing has worked and it was not a good set up and then the wiring issues start.
..oops. Forgot to mention that the service center that put on my Rigid Hitch had issues during assembly. They had wiring issues also. But they did the work for 400.00 hitch included. I am stoked but not stoked that you are having issues. I let service techs work on my car. I did my front brakes but I am not brave enough to dig in.:woot:
