Even though the new Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Volt are two very different cars when it comes to details, they do have a common denominator: they are the most technologically advanced eco-friendly vehicles that are mass-produced and readily available in the U.S. market. That said, it’s interesting to see how they’re doing in sales this year.
Believe it or not, it’s a fierce neck-to-neck sales battle so far in 2011 with only 17 cars separating the Leaf from the Volt. Nissan has delivered 2,184 examples of the pure-electric Leaf from January to the end of May, while GM has sold 2,167 units of Chevrolet’s extended range electric vehicle in the same period.

However, that may soon change as Chevrolet has just expanded the availability of the Volt from seven states plus the District of Columbia to all 50 states in the USA. GM also lowered the base price of the 2012MY Volt by $1,000 to $39,995 (or $32,496 after applying a $7,500 federal tax credit), but the Chevrolet is still significantly more expensive than the Leaf which retails for $32,780 ($25,280 with the tax credit).

Volt looks more stylish but I love nissan, so I have to go with the ugly looking Leaf lol. And you won't have to pay for gas Blu but you will electricity.

You know, never mind ugly. It doesn't look half bad when I stare are it long enough lol.

as far as i know, if you buy the leaf you have to have a charging station installed at your house... i dont know how much that costs... and i think you can get upto 100 miles on a charge... as for the volt, im pretty sure it just plugs into a standard outlet... with only 30 or so miles on a charge... but you can run it on gas... my money is on the leaf! 30 miles couldnt even get me to work!

You do not have to have a charging station. They will sell you a leaf without one. Also many people who got the charging station got them for free with some program or at least a nice tax rebate. The ones who didn't do it are converting their OEM power cord to accept a quicker charge like from a dryer outlet so no station even needed.

The mileage of the leaf will vary greatly. So it's hard to say the range. Nissan states from like 62-138 miles.

I like the leaf more then the volt because if I'm going electric I want to go electric. I don't want to do oil changes or any of the other stuff associated with a gas powered car, which the volt still is.

I like both cars and look forward to them making improvements and this technology trickling into other models.

The owners so far that have reported about their Leaf's have reported a $15 or so increase in electricity a month, which isn't bad compared to what some people spend on gas a month. I spend about $60 or so on gas a month.

Im in favor with the volt when it comes to style and performance. Basically, this is one of the most advanced hybrid cars on the market today. it uses and engine that could produced up to 37 MPG. After all, Chevy parts are not that hard to find with the use of the internet service.....Go VOLT!
