2009 4-door hatch S

Had a wreck a month ago and I'm about to buy an airbag off ebay and replace it (it deployed in the wreck)

What is the "clockspring", and how might I know if I need to replace it as well?

I see a couple of airbags on ebay that include the clockspring - that's why I'm asking.

Thanks!

The clock spring (not really a spring) is the connection for the airbag/steering wheel controls connection between the wheel and the steering colum. It makes it possible to turn the wheel with out breaking the wires

How do I know if it needs to be replaced?

I had a wreck a month ago, the airbag deployed, my buddy the body shop guy fixed everything but the airbag (because the new ones were very expensive). So I want to buy one off ebay and put it in myself.

Thanks!

EDIT:
The clockspring allows the steering wheel to turn without breaking wires, so if the steering wheel electrical stuff works (like the horn and cruise control) then I'm guessing the clockspring is Ok. Sound right?

airbag, steering wheel, clock spring removal/replace

My horn stopped working about 4-5 months ago and did research. Found out it was the clock spring. Dealer confirmed this by my description 'if you rotate the wheel over 90 degrees, horn works', otherwise it didn't work... clock spring defect. Then found a clock spring on Amazon for ~$28.00. Took pictures and posted step-by-step instructions on how to replace here, but administrator/moderator hasn't posted it yet! Don't know why. I was very detailed and provided pictures and part number from Amazon. I am hoping he post soon. Result after replacing, fixed horn. Just need to reset airbag light. Posted instructions about 5 days ago. It should provide you with everything you need on how to remove/replace and why. Note: Napa & Nissan dealer wanted over $175.00 for the part and then there is labor. :frown
