what should I expect for a fuel pump replacement???

I'm going to have to get my fuel pump replaced, as there is no way this one will go much longer. The crank times are getting ridiculous, and im afraid of hurting my starter. What is the procedure for replacing a fuel pump? Just wondering if I should clear the stuff out of my trunk (not sure where the fuel tank bolts in) or if they're just gonna be under the car. Also, has anyone had issues with them refusing service due to aftermarket parts? I have a cold air intake and a throttle controller and I don't want them to blame the part failure on that and then charge me an arm and a leg to replace. Also, what is the cost? My warranty is up and I believe there's a service bulliten out for this issue, but I'm not sure if its free or a lowered cost, or nothing. Thanks guys!

TSB's are not the same as recalls. You will have to pay for the parts and labor if not under warranty. The fuel pump access port is under the back seat. They will not be working under the car at all.

We really need a howto on here for this fuel pressure regulator issue with part numbers and pictures. Such a common issue.

Also just looked up prices. If you DIY your looking around $300 for a new pump and o-ring. I guess the regulator is part of the pump assembly so you need to replace the entire thing. I can't seem to find a part number for the regulator even though I swear I seen a post on here about it. If you have a dealer do it I bet would be 3-4 hours labor so my guess would be $700 +/- to get it all done at the dealer.

Fml.. that would be almost all of my tax refund. Any quick fixes? Should I just put up with it or will it just not start someday? I was really hopiing to put something fun in the car with my refund money, not just make sure it keeps working... any chance the fuel pump is covered under powertrain? I still have a year on that

Yes it is covered under the 6/60k mile powertrain warranty.

i had my fuel pressure regulator replaced after warranty. did not get whole fuel pump replaced

, just the fpr. about $50 for the part, about one hour labour at independent mechanic, not too bad. He specifically ordered just the regulator from Nissan dealer for me. I delayed replacement as long as i could by pumping gas pedal madly while cranking, but i didn't want to be stranded either so i just got it done. Hope it helps! 08v

If its covered under powertrain warranty I'll be fine, cause I still have 1 year/15,000 miles remaining on it. PHEW!

that's the road I want to take
I'm searching for a car doctor [independent shop] when she starts acting up again, I will have a doctor to tow it to with tripleA roadside service.

is the fuel pressure regulator inside the fuel tank or outside?

I think its near the steering wheel column or around the pedals area.

So they shouldn't have to go in the trunk/under the hood at all right? I've heard from friends that my dealership makes a fuss with aftermarket parts. And I don't wanna get into an argument with them

FPR is attached to the fuel pump assembly.

I can not find a separate price or part number listed for the fpr. So if anyone has it please post up. This is definitely a diy job. The instructions are right in the FSM for the removal and installation of the fuel pump. I'm assuming replacing the regulator would be simple once you have the pump out and looking at it.

ohh okay, so it is inside the fuel tank. I read online in some cars sometimes its own fuel keeps the fuel pump cool from overheating....not sure if the V could have that problem.

:werd: some cars you have to buy the sending unit with the fuel pump, could be worst because that means more money. if somebody knows the part number for the fuel pressure regulator, post it plz! :thumb2:

The first replacement for me, Sept/09 part # for regulator was 22670-ZRB70B

Second replacement, Sept/11, # was 22670-ZR70C

Thanks for posting up the part number. You will also need an 0-ring to complete the job.

Alright, so just wanted to add some of the information I learned today at the dealership. (I also posted it in the what did you do today, but I wanted it here for other members to see via the search button.. And I was kinda pissed off)

Fuel pump-covered under powertrain warranty (5 yrs-60,000 miles)
Fuel Pressure Regulator-covered under standard warranty (3 yrs-36,000 miles)

-If it was a California vehicle or an 2010+, the FPR would be covered by the emissions warranty (150,000 miles)

FPR replacement cost at my dealership is around $190, but the Diagnostic fee is $100

So $300 total to get it replaced.

Wow when I read the warranty book it said fuel pump. I would never have thought nissan wouldn't cover the regulator as part of that. What shady crooks. Also charging for the diagnostics fee if you get the work done there is also more shadiness.

Thanks for posting this info. For anyone out there with this issue I suggest DIY. It's only about $30 worth of parts. The FPR and a new tank gasket (o-ring).

Definitely a DIY job. The service manager was really nice about everything, but the technician was not so nice.. He just kinda looked at me like I was nuts when I asked about it being covered under warranty, and then the manager came over and showed me the computer screen and all the info. The tech was kinda just being a jerk.

The manager did however say "That is the SICKEST Versa I have ever seen"

This made me feel slightly better but still kinda pissed off.

That sees to be the case. Don't take my word for it however, as I thought the FPR would be covered, and I was clearly wrong..
