I took my first trip with my 2013 Versa yesterday and lemme tell ya, that thing is squirrely on the Interstate. It only has 5,000 miles on it, but jeez, it doesn't want to track straight and reacts like a leaf to any kind of wind from passing trucks or rut in the pavement. :26:Between having to stay on task the whole time and not having cruise, my 300 mile trip was exhausting! My right ankle was worn out from keeping it on the accellerator pedal and having to constantly adjust for speed changes.

Are there any things I can do to make it settle down on the highway like air pressure changes, just being able to track straight would be a huge improvement.

I have the older 1.6 and body style sedan. So it's a little heavier I think, which means yours is probably a little worse then mine was. But the biggest difference I found was larger wider tires. With the stock 14" skinny tires on I had a hard time keeping it between the lines. I now have some 15" alloys with 195/65/15 tires and it feels much more planted.

Not sure what you mean by speed changes and accelerating? I have no issues like this on the highway.

I agree about the tires. I had 14s as well, then got 15in. SL alloys with 185-65-15 tires and those made a big difference, then I wanted wider tires so I got 205-60-15 tires and rides even better. The biggest difference was lowering the car but not everyone is into that.

Yeah I bet if my car was lower it feel even more planted. I currently have about 7" of ground clearance (which I love). So add the higher roof line with that and any cross wind hits the Versa like a sail on a boat.

Whenever a major blast of wind hit me, the car would slow down a bit and I'd have to adjust, then it'd happen again. I guess it didn't help that most of the traffic yesterday was giant semi-trucks, suburbans, & dually-pickups pulling trailers passing me going 80.

There was a 20 mile detour for construction onto a 55 mph highway and it was actually okay on that.

The Versa really needs cruise control.

I can't afford rims right now, but I think I'll go with a wider/lower tire that has the same height when it's time to buy baby some new shoes, say going from a stock 185/65/15 to a 205/60/15 or a 225/55/15 and trying to find a more aggressive tread

yeah the trucks passing really messes you up. Not anything we can do to fix that. Just hold the wheel with two hands when you see them coming and readjust speed after. Dumb trucks always messing with my mpgs.

That's a good idea. I got my factory wheels to replace my steelies but I plan on getting aftermarket wheels. Going for 16s.

I drove my Versa to Miami Beach, 850 miles there, and 850 back, 1,700 miles round trip, no cruise control. no automatic transmission, no MP3 Plug for the radio :driving: very boring, but I like boring  i had fun and the versa did great! :cheers2:

my Garmin GPS was my best friend, if I ever buy an automatic with cruise control, my Left and right foot won't know what to think :eatpopcorn:

Best thing to do is drop the Versa about 2 inches and widen those tires as much as possible, I put some some 18x7.5 rims with 215/40r18 tires and I can really notice the difference in the wind. I'll let you know how good the drop is after I do that in a few months.

I didn't like having an MP3 player either after having an USB port in my last car. I got one of those cheap fm transmitters that you set to an unused frequency like 87.7, tune your radio to that same frequency and put in a flash drive with your mp3s on it. You can usually get them for 3-5 bucks on fleaBay. Only having the single power port in the console does suck tho, I have to look down to switch songs so I usually just let it play. With what I talked about in my OP, I don't feel safe taking my eyes off the road. Get a big enough flash drive and you won't repeat much, mine has 653 songs on it.

Thanks for the input guys, are there any downsides to the bigger tires? Things like rubbing the wheel well when turned, extra wear on the transaxle from the increased weight/different size, anything else I can't think of?

Wider tires a little more susceptible to following ruts and other road irregularities.:burnout:

Get the front end aligned by someone who knows what they are doing and has their equipment properly calibrated.

The dealer who sold you the car should be able to do this. If not, you'll have to find someone else.

I have had to do this on EVERY new car I have ever purchased, regardless of brand.
