You think your MPG is bad, the worst I had was 22 MPG and coming from a CVT. That is all city driving too.
winter is definately here and my Versa doesn't like it
I can tell the cold is here. The V so far is handling the cold like a champ. But that is not to say everything is perfect.
I am noticing that the tiny little engine takes forever to produce some heat. There is almost zero point in letting the car warm up because even after like 15 minutes of just idling the car is not warm enough to produce heat. I let the car idle for 20 seconds or so and then drive easy until the blue temperature light shuts off. This has proven to be the best way to get heat quick and not hurt the vehicle.
Another thing is noise and vibration. As before when I could not tell if my V was even running or not at a stop it is definitely noticeable now. I guess the cold stiff motor mounts are transferring some vibrations to the cabin. I can feel it in the pedals as well. Also the cars exhaust seems louder and maybe even engine seem much louder. Still quieter then any other vehicle I have had just louder when cold. Once the car has been driven for awhile and nice and hot all goes back to pretty much normal though. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the car just noting how it's different in winter.
Lastly, and I knew this was going to happen is the MPG drop. I am getting the worst mpg ever since I got her. I have been getting 33.7 and 33.9 mpg. I have never gotten under 35.x before and usually get around 36+. Still not bad but boy do cars suck more gas in the winter.
oh and dash rattles from all the cheap plastics too. Can't leave those out. Hard plastic and cold do not go well together.

yeah I think the epa overated the 1.8 and underrated the 1.6. If my car ever got in the 20's I would have to get rid of it. My 99 turbo infiniti g20t which put out approx 240 crank HP got me 26 in the winter 29-30 in the summer and an all time high of 34mpg.You think your MPG is bad, the worst I had was 22 MPG and coming from a CVT. I drove a whole tank like a granny, not exceeding 60mph on the highway and got 34ish. Next tank driving 80ish on highway I got 34. In town or on the highway the 1.6 is consistent. Only time I see a difference is with hilly terrain.
I would love to push 30+ mpg right now but that's not going to happen with winter temperatures and not driving on the highway/freeways. 20 sec for your car to warm up and the light to turn off? damn, i have to wait several minutes...
Don't worry, mine takes a few minutes as well. It's been very very cold here. However don't you live in California? It can't possibly be as cold as here! haha! Usually when I leave work I'm already driving on the highway to get home before the lights goes off. Takes at least two minutes before ... However, if she has been parked in the garage overnight, it goes off within one minute if not less.20 sec for your car to warm up and the light to turn off? damn, i have to wait several minutes...

my V produces great heat after driving for a sec... i have noticed in the cold on start up that it idles a little higher... could explain the fuel usage... engines run richer on cold air. more dense.
